Southwest Trip (April-May 2006)

After finishing grad school in Colorado, I spent a few weeks driving through the American Southwest. I wanted to photograph some of the classic landscapes there before moving to Hawaii.

Some of the locations I photographed along the way were:

  1. BulletTaos Pueblo

  2. Bandelier National Monument

  3. City of Rocks

  4. El Malpais

  5. Canyon de Chelles

  6. Shiprock

  7. Monument Valley

  8. Antelope Canyon

  9. Grand Canyon

  10. Wupatki

  11. Sunset Crater

These are a few photos from various events, trips, and locations. Many are just snapshots, but this allows me to include extra photos from various locations which didn't make it into the portfolio above.  Please also see my photostream on Flickr.

Kauai Trip (March 2008)

We spent a week in Kauai which has some of the most remarkable scenery of the Hawaiian islands.

Bosque del Apache

Bosque del Apache is a stopover for migratory birds in New Mexico.  In winter tens of thousands of snow geese and sandhill cranes can be found here.  A birders mecca, this is also a fantastic site for photography.

Mauna Kea

An otherworldly summit on the Big Island of Hawaii.  Just an hours drive from the beach is a 13,800 foot volcanic summit and a climate so different that it’s hard to believe you’re on a tropical island in the Pacific.

Maui Trip (August 2008)

These photos are from a short trip to Maui.  We stayed in Kihei and explored the west half of Maui.

Bryce Canyon (May 2005)

Bryce Canyon is a beautiful park in southwestern Utah.

Maui Trip (Nov 2008)

These photos are from another short trip to Maui.  This time, we camped on the Hana (east) coast of the island.

Also check out my “mini-reviews” of camera equipment and an old article I wrote about depth of field and digital SLRs.

Portfolio

I’ve always been interested in outdoor photography.  This gallery includes a sampling of some of my favorite images with an emphasis on landscapes and wildlife photography.

Nightscapes

I’ve also become interested in night time photography.  This work is done with normal photography gear (SLR, tripod, etc.), but uses long exposures to capture the image in very low light conditions.  A few of the images also involve “light painting”, using a flashlight to selectively illuminate a scene.

Kauai Trip (Nov 2009)

Photos from a Thanksgiving trip to Kauai.  We stayed in a cabin near Waimea canyon.

Eastern Sierra Nevada (June 2009)

Photos from a beautiful camping trip along the Eastern Sierra Nevada.  This was a spectacular drive along a overlooked portion of California.

Kona Weekend & Lava Viewing (Apr 2010)

Photos from a weekend trip to Kona and an evening at the lava viewing area near Kalapana.
