This image of R Coronae Australis and the neighboring NGC 6723 globular cluster was taken using my CCD camera (SBIG ST-2000XM) on a telescope (Stellarvue SV80S) and mount (Astro-Physics Mach1GTO) owned by the Mauna Kea Visitor Information Station. R Cornoa Australis is a young star probably 2-10 times the mass of our sun. In this image, R Coronae Australis is the rightmost of the two stars surrounded by a faint reflection nebula which lies to the lower left of the two brighter stars surrounded by the blue reflection nebulae.
This image was featured as Stellarvue's "Stellar Shot of the Week" for the week starting July 15, 2007.
