Hilo Astronomy Club

The Hilo Astronomy Club is an informal group of people with an interest in amateur astronomy.  We don’t have formal meetings, but we do gather at least once a month at the Visitor Information Station (VIS) on Mauna Kea to observe and share our passion with the public.

We coordinate our observing trips on a Yahoo! group.  Join us at:

Sign up on the above HiloAstro Yahoo! group and you’ll see club news and postings about upcoming events and be able to participate in email discussions.  We have all levels of members in the club, from dedicated observers and armchair enthusiasts, to people new to the hobby.

On Saturday October 24, 2009 the club participated in the Galileo Block Party.  Thanks to the work of those at Subaru Telescope who organized it, we got to introduce the club to Hilo residents.  Check out our photos page for photos of the event.  Olivier and his telscope, Priscilla, were featured prominently in the Hawaii Tribune-Herald’s write up of the event.
